Support for tourism in Yogyakarta, or Jogja, is on the rise, exemplified by the opening of the Krisna Oleh-Oleh Nusantara store at Malioboro Mall in Yogyakarta City, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Social Affairs Minister Tri Rismaharini "Risma" officially inaugurated the store on the evening of May 31, 2024.

The Yogyakarta store of Krisna Oleh-Oleh Bali features top products from hundreds of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Yogyakarta. With a modern and inviting design, the store offers a diverse array of Yogyakarta souvenirs, including traditional foods, handicrafts, batik, and various creative products.

Risma praised the store's opening, noting its dual role in marketing MSME products and empowering workers with disabilities. She highlighted that 17 types of Nusantara Economic Heroes (Pena) handicraft products are now available through Krisna Oleh-Oleh Nusantara, which also employs two disabled workers.

"This store currently features 17 products from Pena beneficiary families. We expect more in the future, as market acceptance is crucial and we aim to maintain high standards," Risma stated after the store's launch.

Those products include sasirangan fabrics from South Kalimantan, eco-print hats, ties, vests, tops, batik prayer rugs, shirts, patterned batik fabrics, and pouches.

Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association DIY General Secretary Ridho Sinto Mardaris views the store's presence in Malioboro Mall as a beacon of hope for the revival of MSMEs in Yogyakarta. With its strategic position Krisna Store offers the most comprehensive collection of DIY MSME products that could attract international and domestic tourists seeking Yogyakarta souvenirs.

Ridho is optimistic about the positive impact Krisna Store will have, seeing it as a significant opportunity for DIY MSMEs to expand and compete in broader markets. However, this opportunity also presents challenges, as MSMEs must improve product quality and maintain consistent production to meet mall standards.

"The products displayed here have been carefully curated by HIPMI, Kadin (the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry), and Krisna's owner," Ridho emphasized.

HIPMI DIY will continue to support MSMEs through training and mentoring programs, ensuring that products at Krisna meet quality standards and can compete globally.

Ridho also hopes that the opening of Krisna Store will significantly boost the Yogyakarta economy. By involving hundreds of MSMEs, the store not only serves as a shopping destination but also symbolizes the resurgence of the local economy.
