GAC Aion to Build Factory in Indonesia

Indonesia's automotive market remains vast and promising, attracting GAC Aion New Energy Automobile to expand its business by launching its first product to the country, Aion Y Plus. Aion Indonesia officially introduced the Aion Y Plus to the Indonesian market on Jun. 19, 2024, in Jakarta.
"As the largest automotive market in Southeast Asia, GAC Aion sees Indonesia as a strategic partner in fulfilling GAC Aion's business expansion goals outside China," GAC Aion Southeast Asia President Ocean Ma stated
To demonstrate its commitment to Indonesia, Aion Indonesia aims to provide low-emission, environmentally friendly transportation options through the Aion Y Plus.
"We are also committed to bringing world-class new energy-powered products to global consumers and creating a new lifestyle together with new energy-powered smart vehicles," Ocean Ma explained .
Aion's dedication to expanding in Indonesia is further shown by its plans to establish a GAC Aion car assembly central base in the country.
"We hope to make Indonesia the central base for GAC Aion in Southeast Asia with the strategy of planting our roots in Indonesia, radiating to the ASEAN, and exporting globally through a joint venture with the Indomobil Group," Aion Indonesia Chief Operating Officer Louis Liu said.
GAC Aion is preparing said car assembly factory in Cikampek District, Karawang Regency, West Java, set to begin operations in the fourth quarter of 2024. Aion Indonesia Chief Executive Officer Andry Ciu said that the factory is targeted to meet the demands of both domestic and international consumers, with significant investment allocated.
"The factory will be built in phases, at first with a capacity of 50,000 units per year, and it will be expanded in line with market growth," explained Andry.
At the launch, the Aion Y Plus was introduced in two variants: Exclusive and Premium. The Exclusive model is priced at Rp415 million, and the Premium variant at Rp475 million. Aion's electric cars will begin distribution to buyers in the July to August 2024 period.
