Chan stated that the strategic meeting served as a platform to explore partnership opportunities between China and West Papua for research development, technological innovation, and sustainable natural resource management.

"China wants to help West Papua manage its natural resources in an environmentally friendly manner," he added.

Chan said that cooperation with China can have a positive impact on West Papua by enabling the province to realize its economic transformation, leading to a region that is increasingly advanced, independent, and prioritizes science and technology. The meeting also emphasized the importance of strengthening friendly relations between nations as a foundation for inclusive and sustainable development in Eastern Indonesia.

West Papua Governor Dominggus Mandacan stated that the sustainable use of natural resources through international cooperation has led to improvements for the regional economy and local communities in West Papua. There are several potential natural resource sectors that could be developed through sustainable development cooperation, including renewable energy, fisheries, plantations, and tourism.
