WINDONESIA July 4, 2025
The Bengkulu Provincial Government held the Besurek Batik Carnival to enliven the 2025 Tabut Festival while introducing the region's original batik and preserving Bengkulu's cultural heritage.
"This activity also aims to instill a love for art and culture in Bengkulu's people, especially for besurek batik which has been designated as an Intangible Heritage by UNESCO," said Acting Bengkulu Province Regional Secretary Herwan Antoni in Bengkulu, Thursday.
This carnival was attended by various groups, including central government organizations, Bengkulu Provincial Government Offices, students, and the general public.
The route starts from in front of the Bumi Merah Putih Bridge to the Sport Center, a tourist destination in Panjang Beach, Bengkulu City. The carnival showcases the pride of the Bengkulu people towards besurek batik.
"The Besurek Batik Carnival is a realization of our pride in Bengkulu's characteristic batik, so that we all try to maintain the values of local wisdom and innovate in developing various batik motifs, especially besurek batik," said Herwan Antoni.
With this activity, he said, the Bengkulu Provincial Government hopes that the 2025 Tabut Festival will be even more lively, increasing the attraction of tourist visits as well as arousing the interest of locals and tourists in Bengkulu's cultural heritage.
"The carnival is expected to increase the love of the community, especially the younger generation, for besurek batik and preserve local culture. This carnival is also an event to promote besurek batik as one of Indonesia's cultural wealth that should be protected," said Herwan Antoni.
Previously, Bengkulu Governor Helmi Hasan officially opened the 2025 Bengkulu Tabut Festival on June 27, 2025. The Bengkulu Tabut Festival is being held for 10 days to commemorate the Islamic New Year.
"We would like to thank all parties who have actively contributed and supported with prayers. Insya Allah, the 2025 Tabut Festival can run well in line with our expectations. In the future, the Tabut Festival should not be [held] alone, there must be a festival that follows it," said Helmi.
