West Sumatra's exports surged 77.58 percent mtm in February 2025

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) noted that West Sumatra's exports in February 2025 has increased drastically compared to the past month.
"The value of West Sumatra's exports in February 2025 was recorded to have increased by 77.58 percent month-to-month (mtm)," said BPS Sumbar Head Sugeng Ariadi in his official statement on Apr. 9, 2025.
Sugeng revealed that the value of West Sumatra's exports was recorded at US$272.1 million February 2025 , which is also up by 70.67 percent year-on-year (yoy) from February 2024. The province's export value in February 2025 was its highest recorded figure compared to previous months.
"In January 2025, the value of West Sumatra's exports was recorded at US$153.23 million US dollars, while in February 2024 it was at US$159.43," he said.
Sugeng explained, the increase in export figures was in line with the increase in West Sumatra's mainstay products, namely the vegetable or animal fat and oil group of commodities. West Sumatra's exports of the vegetable or animal fat and oil group of commodities rose from US$116.6 million in January 2025 to US$230.42 million in February 2025
"There was an increase of 97.63 percent compared to January for exports of vegetable and animal fat and oil groups in February," he divulged.
Moreover, Sugeng elaborated that three countries were West Sumatra's main export destinations throughout February 2025, namely India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
"West Sumatra's largest recorded exports were to India at 34.11 percent, with a nominal value reaching US$145.07 million," he said.
Furthermore, West Sumatra's exports to Pakistan were recorded at 17.37 percent with a nominal value reaching US$73.89 million, followed by the province's Bangladesh at 11.21 percent with a nominal value of US$47.66 million.
