Turkish investors are eyeing West Nusa Tenggara Province to build silos for rice and corn in the region. West Nusa Tenggara Food Security Office Head Aidy Furqon confirmed the potential for Turkish investment in eastern Indonesia. He clarified that the construction of the grain and corn silos by Turkish investors is still in the planning stages.
"Turkish investors will come here sometime this month or next to verify the location for the planned silo construction," he said in Mataram City, West Nusa Tenggara, on Oct. 21, 2025.
Aidy explained that the investors have agreed to invest in building silos within the province based on the requirements of land area, coverage area, and government commitment.
"If they follow up, we will assist them in determining which [option to take] is more feasible," he continued.
Aidy elaborated that the options being offered depend on the conditions and land available from the West Nusa Tenggara Provincial government. The focus is on Sumbawa Island for corn silos, either in Sumbawa Regency or Dompu Regency. Meanwhile, the focus for grain silos is on Lombok Island, either in West Lombok Regency or in the eastern part of Central Lombok Regency near Jerowaru District, East Lombok Regency.
"They will decide which is best [for each purpose]," he added.
Aidy said that the planned silos will have a capacity of around 500,000 tons per silo. However, Aidy has not yet received detailed information on the investment value of the warehouses.
"The financing will be determined after they realize [their investment plan]. There will be calculations [that] they understand better. There are also many things to take care of, including permits and all the international issues. They will handle it, we will just wait for them," Aidy divulged.
"Hopefully, the investment is realized. We need the support, because it is for the [good of the] West Nusa Tenggara economy," he continued.
"Simply put, a silo is [both] a warehouse and a processing facility. So, there's a storage area and a drying facility [at each silo]. For example, after the unhusked rice arrives, it is dried first before storage," Aidy concluded.
