SMB II Airport regains international airport status

The Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin (SMB) II Airport has regained its status as an international airport. Previously, the airport in Palembang City, South Sulawesi Province was downgraded into a domestic airport through a Transportation Ministry Decree on Apr. 2, 2024.
"Alhamdulillah, we are grateful for this good news. The South Sumatra Provincial Government would like to thank President Prabowo and Transportation Minister [Dudy Purwaghandi] who have returned the status of SMB II Palembang to an international airport," said South Sumatra Governor Herman Deru on Apr. 26, 2025.
He added that the international airport was returned to SMB II Palembang Airport's was marked by the issuance of Transportation Minister Decree No. KM 26/2025 dated Apr. 25, 2025, on Confirmation of S.M. Badaruddin II Airport in Palembang, which revoked Transportation Minister Decree No. KM 146/2024 on the Determination of Domestic Airports.
"This good news has been long awaited, and of course this will have a positive impact on future economic growth in South Sumatra," explained Deru
