Grebeg Sudiro, an annual series of Chinese New Year celebrations in Surakarta City or Solo, is back to enliven the 2025 Chinese New Year. 'Grebeg' in Javanese tradition refers to routine celebrations and thanksgiving to commemorate important events. Meanwhile, 'Sudiro' comes from Sudiroprajan Village, Jebres District near the Hardjonagoro Solo Large Market or Pasar Gede.
Initially, Grebeg Sudiro was was initiated by ethnic Chinese and Javanese residents in Sudiroprajan Village, which is known as the Chinatown of Surakarta City, to commemorate the anniversary of Pasar Gede which in Sudiroprajan Village.
Over time, Grebeg Sudiro has become a celebration of tolerance and togetherness between the two ethnic groups in the city. The occasion is also a special attraction for residents and tourists.
The series of Grebeg Sudiro 2025 begins with Umbul Mantram and will be closed with a fireworks party. The agenda of Grebeg Sudiro 2025 according to the Surakarta City Communication and Information Office are:
- January 16, 2025: Umbul Mantram in Sudiroprajan Village,
- January 17-31, 2025: Potential Bazaar at the Pasar Gede area,
- January 17-31, 2025: Tourist Boat at the Kali Pepe Pier,
- January 26, 2025: Cultural Carnival at the Pasar Gede area,
- January 28, 2025: Harmony Fireworks Party Splendor at the Pasar Gede area and the Surakarta City Hall.
