WINDONESIA March 12, 2025
Publicly-listed coal company PT ABM Investama Tbk. subsidiary PT Cipta Kridatama (PT CK) collaborated with SUN Energy in the inauguration of a solar power plant (SPP) in Jambi Province. PT CK President Director Meidi Wibowo said that the SPP has the first containerized battery energy storage system (CBESS) in Indonesia.
"The SPP has a capacity of 643.8 kWp, and is equipped with a 1 MWh (megawatt hour) battery storage system packed in a 20-foot (6.09 meter) container," said Meidi in an official statement on Feb. 22, 2025.
He stated that PT CK is committed to continuing to improve operational efficiency and adopting sustainable solutions in running its business, adding that PT CK operates in various remote locations that are not always reached by Indonesia's national electricity network. Therefore, PT CK needs a reliable, efficient, and environmentally friendly energy source to support mining activities and maintain long-term business sustainability.
The CBESS SPP in Jambi operates off-grid and was built in 4 months, and it will will supply electricity to various operational facilities such as employee dormitories, sports arenas, mosques, and 24-hour clinics.
"By utilizing renewable energy, we contribute to realizing greener and more sustainable mining operations. [The SPP is] estimated to produce more than 849,000 kiloWatt hours (kWh) of clean energy annually and reduce [PT CK's] carbon footprint by 660 tons of CO2 (carbon dioxide), which is equivalent to planting more than 10,900 trees," Meidi explained.
Meanwhile, SUN Energy Chief Sales Officer Oky Gunawan claimed that SUN Energy's cutting-edge technology and track record have been proven to provide efficient solutions. In addition, SUN Energy's technology is also said to be reliable to support electricity needs in the mining sector and other industries. The collaboration, he said, proves that the implementation of green energy can go hand in hand with operational efficiency and business sustainability.
“We believe that CBESS technology can be a game-changer in the development of renewable energy in Indonesia,” Oky added.
