Chinese energy giant Mingyang Smart Energy Group has officially partnered with the Bengkulu Provincial Government for an ambitious Wind Power Plant (WPP) development project worth Rp7 trillion. The memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the project was signed by the Bengkulu Provincial Government and Mingyang Group subsidiary PT Investasi Ming Yang on May 24, 2025.

This project is claimed to be the driving force of clean energy in the western region of Sumatra, and it is also expected to be a catalyst for Bengkulu's economic growth to an even higher level.

"This is not an ordinary project. This is a big step towards environmentally friendly future energy," said Maria Gultom, who represents PT Investasi Ming Yang President Director Gofu.

She added that the company has deployed a team of experts from Shanghai to conduct a direct feasibility study at several points in Bengkulu. The study found that Bengkulu's wind is considered stable and strong, ideal for conversion into renewable power.

"Bengkulu has extraordinary potential. We are not only talking about turbines standing majestically on the hills, but about how this creates jobs, revives the local economy, and strengthens Indonesia's commitment to green energy," she said.

In addition to supplying local energy needs with a WPP that is predicted to be one of the largest in Sumatra Island, the project also has the potential to support electricity in the industrial area around the Port of Bengkulu in Baai Island as well as its surroundings.
