KKP, West Java to revitalize North Coast culture fisheries

The Marine Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Ministry will revitalize 78,000 hectares (ha) of unproductive culture fisheries in the North Coast of Java. This program will be carried out in multiple stages, with the majority of funding coming from Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara).
KKP Minister Sakti Wahyu Trenggono stated the first stage of revitalization progran will begin this year for 20.4 ha of fisheries in the West Java Province regencies of Bekasi, Karawang, Subang, and Indramayu.
"The estimated investment (for the first stage) is Rp26 trillion.," he revealed at the Mina Bahari III Building of the KKP Ministry's office in Central Jakarta Administrative City, Jakarta Special Capital Region (DKI) on June 25, 2025.
Trenggono said the revitalization program will be carried out to increase agricultural production and food security around the North Coast. The program is expected to employ 100,000 workers for the revitalization effort.
"The [jobs] directly dedicated [for the revitalization would employ] no less than 40,000 people," Trenggono said.
In addition, the fisheries revitalization of is also part of improving the environment and infrastructure in fisheries cultivation areas around the North Coast.
"Thus, the first mission of the revitalization of the North Coast fisheries is to improve the environment," said Trenggono.
To support the program, the KKP Ministry signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the West Java Provincial Government on the synergy of marine and fisheries management based on the blue economy in West Java. The MoU was personally signed by Trenggono and West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi.
Meanwhile, the KKP Ministry is also targeting the revitalization of fisheries in the North Coast to increase their productivity to 144 tons per ha in one year, from the previous level of 0.6 tons per ha in a year.
