Investments to Nongsa SEZ Targeted to Reach Rp40 Trillion

Taman Resor Internet Director Peters Vincen stated that the investment value of the Nongsa Special Economic Zone (SEZ) is targeted to reach Rp40 trillion by 2032. Taman Resor Internet is the Nongsa Special Economic Zone (SEZ)'s development and management enterprise.

"In line with our commitment to the Coordinating Economic Minister, we will carry out our goal of bringing investment up to Rp40 trillion thanks to the SEZ," Vincen said at the Nongsa Digital Park in Batam City, Riau Islands Province on Jul. 27, 2024.

However, he could not yet specify the amount investment until 2024. Vincen did inform that most investors entering the SEZ are there for the data centers. The Nongsa SEZ currently has five investors to nine available land areas set aside for data centers.

"Apart from that, there are also other existing investors for tourism and other businesses," he said.

Nongsa SEZ investors are not only domestic ones, but also from foreign territories such as Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and New Zealand. Vincen hopes for support from the government to increase the growth of business activities in the SEZ.

"We really hope for [government] support so that we could help this SEZ, with a land area of ​​only around 50 hectares, to achieve our Rp40 trillion investment target," he divulged.

The Nongsa SEZ is focused on research business activities, digital economy and technology development, tourism, education, and creative industries.

Batam also has two other SEZs apart from Nongsa, namely, the Tanjung Sauh SEZ and the Batam Aero Technic SEZ. In fact, the government and the National SEZ Council Secretariat-General are proposing two new SEZs in this region, namely the Nipa SEZ in the Nipa Island area and the Batam Health SEZ in Sekupang and Nongsa.
