WINDONESIA May 9, 2025
Riau Islands Deputy Governor Nyanyang Haris Pratamura received an audience from the Chinese Indonesian (INTI) Association led by INTI Association Chair Teddy Sugianto at the Riau Island Governor's Office in Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands, on Apr. 29, 2025.
This meeting discussed the potential for investment from China to the archipelagic province. The INTI Association expressed its commitment to be a strategic liaison between Chinese investors and the Riau Islands Provincial Government.
Teddy emphasized that the rapid development of technology in China is a great opportunity that Riau Islands can utilize to accelerate regional economic development.
"INTI is ready to be the main liaison. Many Chinese investors are interested in bringing their technology to Indonesia, especially Riau Islands," said Sugianto.
He also highlighted the positive side effect of the trade war between the United States and China encouraging industrial relocation to Southeast Asia.
"Indonesia has more competitive export tariffs to the US than China. This makes Riau Islands, with its FTZ (free trade zone) areas such as Batam, Bintan, and Karimun, a strategic location for manufacturing industry investment," he explained.
In response, Deputy Governor Nyanyang welcomed the INTI Association's initiative and emphasized that investment opportunities in Riau Islands are also available in other regions in the province beyond Batam City, such as the regencies of Karimun, Bintan, Lingga, and Anambas Islands.
"Riau Islands is vast and full of potential. We want investors to also see opportunities outside Batam. Widespread investment will provide a more even economic impact throughout the region," he explained.
In the meeting, Nyanyang also explained the spatial planning and potential for industrial area development in Dompak Island, Tanjungpinang City, Riau Islands and Tanjungpinang City as a whole.
