Indonesia, Japan disucss AZEC and West Sumatra GtPP

President Prabowo Subianto received a visit from the Special Envoy of the Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, who is himself also a former Japanese prime minister, and his delegation at his residence in the Kertanegara area of South Jakarta Administrative City, Jakarta Special Capital Region on the evening of May 4, 2025.
In the meeting, the two parties discussed the development of cooperation projects within the framework of the Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC), as well as the planned investment for a geothermal power plant (GtPP) project in West Sumatra Province
"And tomorrow (May 5, 2025) there will be a signing of the financial closing for the project in [Nagari] Muara Laboh ,[ Pagu District, South Solok Regency,] West Sumatra for a 80 MW (megawatt) geothermal [power plant] with an investment of around US$500 million," said Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartato, who attended the meeting. He added that Indonesia currently has more than 170 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Japan.
Prabowo also expressed his appreciation for the close cooperation between Indonesia and Japan during the meeting, and his expectation that the collaboration can continue to be strengthened amid current global uncertainty due to the tariff war initiated by the United States.
"Kishida also conveyed how this situation has become uncertain and in a situation like this, cooperation between the two countries is very important," Airlangga divulged.
Also present at the meeting were Foreign Affairs Minister Sugiono, State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi, Investment and Downstream Minister/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Head Rosan Roeslani, Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Agriculture Deputy Minister Sudaryono, Communication and Digital Affairs Deputy Minister Angga Raka Prabowo, and PT Pertamina (Persero) President Director Simon Aloysius Mantiri.
