The Marine Affairs and Fisheries Ministry's Marine and Fisheries Product Quality Control and Supervision Agency (BPPMHKP)  Ambon noted that Hong Kong was the largest buyer of live fishery commodities from Maluku in the first half (H1) of 2024.

"The value of live fishery exports to Hong Kong was US$3,023,847, or equivalent to more than Rp49 billion," BPPMHKP Ambon Head Muh. Hatta Arisandi stated in Ambon City, Maluku Province on July 25, 2024.

He added that live fishery export value to Hong Kong soared by 67.46 percent year-on-year (yoy) based on BPPMHKP data. The increase in live fishery exports was inseparable from the rise in export volume for various types of Maluku fishery commodities, which rose from 122,782 units in H1 2023 to 201,780 units in H1 2024.

Maluku's live fishery commodities that are the Hong Kong's market favorites are grouper, crab, harlequin sweetlips, and wrasse. After Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia are also the top buyets of live fishery commodities from Maluku.

Hatta said that BPPMHKP Ambon is currently also trying to take steps to improve by enhancing its services and synergizing with related institutions.

"The export of fishery commodities from Maluku is inseparable from the hard work and commitment by all elements of the BPPMHKP Ambon and related agencies such as the Finance Ministry Customs and Excise Directorate-General's Ambon Office, the Maluku Province Marine Affairs and Fisheries Office, and the Maluku Industry and Trade Office to ensure ease in Maluku's export licensing and services process," he explained.

Therefore, the Ambon BPPMHKP enacted several public service innovations to accelerate export services, including a direct outreach program to business actors through the Tatihu rapid reaction team, the 24-hour export certification service, and the Virtual Fast Service System (Silapatua) that offers certification activities for the implementation of the Integrated Quality Management Program (PMMT)/hazard analysis and critical control points (HACCP) program and the implementation of Good Fish Quarantine Practices (CKIB).
