Five Destinations in Misool That You Will Love

Misool is one of the four main islands in the Raja Ampat Islands Regency, Southwest Papua Province. Located at the bird's head of West Papua and directly bordering the Seram Sea, Misool is a non-volcanic island characterized by its hilly terrain and dense tropical rainforest. Its clusters of karst rocks and a vibrant underwater ecosystem are its main attractions
To head to Misool, you must first fly to Sorong, then continue by speedboat for around 4-5 hours. Upon arrival, all your fatigue will be completely forgotten thanks to the island's undeniable beauty.
If you're planning a holiday to Misool, here are five must-visit tourist destinations:
1. Balbulol Lagoon
The first destination is Balbulol, a lagoon adorned with towering karsts. There are three iconic karsts that resemble Christmas trees or ice cream cones.
Thpse karsts appear to float, with sea water erosion leaving only the inside as support. The clear waters of Balbulol are shallow in some parts, perfect for swimming. You can see white sand, various sea fish, and colorful coral, making it ideal for snorkeling and diving.
2. Lake Karawapop
Lake Karawapop is uniquely shaped like a heart when viewed from a distance, earning it the nicknames lake of love, lake of love, or love lagoon. The sea lake, flanked by three islands, looks heart-shaped from certain angles. There's a dock for speedboats on one side.
To see the lake's unique view, climb to the top of the hill for about 30 minutes. At the top, you're treated to views of the clear turquoise waters. Don't forget to capture the moment with a heart symbol!
3. Dapunlol (Harfat Peak)
Another great spot to view Misool from above is what the local calls Dapunlol, which is also called Harfat Peak. This place offers a stunning natural landscape. A 30-minute climb via wooden stairs leads to the top.
As you ascend, enjoy views of the turquoise sea and several karsts. At the summit, you can choose from three locations to see the Misool waters, each offering different but equally stunning views of Misool's coral islands.
4. Lake Lenmakana
Lake Lenmakana is unique for its stingless jellyfish. These jellyfish live in groups in the saltwater lake and are friendly to humans, though they should not be touched roughly. With its lack of crowds, Lake Lenmakana offers a serene experience.
After a short walk, you can swim with the jellyfish, but avoid using sunscreen and other things with potentially harmful chemicals before going in to protect them.
5. Keramat Cave
The fifth must-visit destination in Misool is the Sacred Cave, located between South Misool District and East Misool District, with its entrance facing the ocean. You’ll walk down a small passage with sea water flowing between rocks, karsts, and trees to enter the cave.
Inside, you'll find walls and ceilings adorned with water-droplet-emitting stalactites forming a small pool below. The cave also contains many human skulls, two graves of the first proselytizer of Islam to Misool Island, and inscriptions of God's name.
