Construction of the Sicincin-Bukittinggi Toll Road is targeted to begin in October 2026. Work on the Padang-Pekanbaru Toll Road section was reaffirmed by Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo during a working visit to Tanah Datar Regency, West Sumatra, on Mar. 3, 2026.
Dody confirmed that the Sicincin-Bukittinggi Toll Road construction has been included in the implementation plan and is expected to be realized on schedule. This section is one of the strategic projects in the Sumatra Toll Road network, connecting the western region of Sumatra Island.
"We will indeed build the Sicincin-Bukittinggi Toll Road. We will start, Insya Allah, in October 2026." he said.
Regarding the estimated budget of Rp 25.6 trillion for the project, Dody emphasized President Prabowo Subianto's full support. He stated that project financing is not a problem as long as the development has a positive impact on the people of West Sumatra.
"However, I sincerely hope the public and relevant parties will fully support the ministry regarding the implementation," Dody emphasized.
He added that land acquisition is key to the smooth running of the project. vThe government recognizes that land issues in West Sumatra are quite complex and require full support from all parties. As a lesson learned, Dody mentioned the construction of the Sitinjau Lauik flyover, which has yet to show any progress due to unresolved land issues.
Responding to the development plan, House of Representatives Commission VI Deputy Chair Andre Rosiade stated that his office has requested West Sumatra High Prosecutor Muhibuddin and West Sumatra Regional Police Chief to invite the Head of the National Land Agency (BPN), the governor, mayor, and relevant regent to discuss expediting land acquisition.
Andre also called on the public and relevant stakeholders to fully support the continued construction of the Padang-Pekanbaru Toll Road, particularly the Sicincin-Bukittinggi section as it is considered crucial for strengthening connectivity and boosting economic growth in West Sumatra.
"The plan is to discuss it on Apr. 6," he revealed.
