BPS: Investments to North Maluku Rises by 2.85 Percent YoY in Q2 2024

Statistics Indonesia (BPS) North Maluku Province revealed that realized foreign investments to North Maluku reached US$1.7 million (about Rp27.7 trillion) in the second quarter (Q2) of 2024, or equal to 12.4 percent of total foreign invesments in Q2 2024.

"This value grew 2.85 percent year-on-year (yoy)," BPS North Maluku Acting Head Nurhidayat Maskat stated on Aug. 10, 2024.

He added that BPS North Maluku noted the province's foreign trade performance growth, with the value of North Maluku's exports surging 28.23 percent yoy and while their volume rose by 23.60 percent yoy.

In terms of government sector spending, North Maluku's employee spending, goods and services spending, as well as capital expenditures in both the state budget and North Maluku provincial budget increasing by 26.9 percent yoy, 19.8 percent yoy, and 38.2 percent yoy, respectively.

In terms of mining activities, ferronickel production experienced 5.52 percent quarter to quarter (qtq) growth and 10.09 percent yoy growth. Very large growth is also recorded in mixed hydroxide precipitate (MHP) production, which soared by 71.28 percent qtq and 270.85 percent yoy.

"That happened because the smelter that produces MHP in Central Halmahera has not been producing in the same quarter last year," Nurhidayat explained.

Moreover, nickel matte production jumped by 145.60 percent qtq and grew 76.26 percent yoy. In addition, he said that BPS also recorded North Maluku continuing to achieve a trade balance surplus.
