Sustainable jazz festival IGMJ 2025 to start on Apr. 12
WINDONESIA April 11, 2025
East Nusa Tenggara Province is preparing to make history as the host of the first international jazz festival with an environmentally friendly focus with International Golo Mori Jazz (IGMJ) 2025. It also marks the beginning of a new chapter in the development of tourism, art, and cultural experiences in Eastern Indonesia.
The festival will be held on Apr. 12, 2025, in the Golo Mori tourist area of West Manggarai Regency, organized by PT Aviasi Pariwisata Indonesia (Persero) or InJourney subsidiary PT Pengembangan Pariwisata Indonesia or Injourney Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC).
ITDC Commercial Director Troy Warokka explained in a press conference held at Sudamala Komodo Resort in the Labuan Bajo Super Priority Tourism Destination on Apr. 9, 2025, that the festival introduces the combination of music, nature, and culture within a sustainable framework to the public.
The festival, which presents a harmonious stage for local, national, and international musicians, is also a cross-sector collaboration event aimed at encouraging tourism, strengthening the creative economy, and raising awareness of the importance of environmental conservation.
"This event is designed to celebrate cultural richness while introducing Indonesia's tourism potential to the world. We prioritize a festival experience that is immersive, classy, and environmentally friendly in the heart of Eastern Indonesia," said Tony.
The festival will be enlivened by several well-known musicians such as Sheila Majid, Tohpati Orchestra, Andien, as well as Maliq and D'Essentials. No less interesting are local musicians from East Nusa Tenggara such as Tate Kind Art and Gema Nusa Project, presenting regional music that further enriches the festival.
Jazz Gunung Indonesia President Director Bagas Indyatmono said that the Golo Mori Convention Center (GMCC), the festival's venue, is a natural open space that promises an immersive experience.
"We want to present a jazz music experience that is not only heard, but also seen, felt, and remembered," explained Bagas.
The realization of IGMJ 2025's green principles include its waste management, use of recycled materials, drinking water refill stations, to reuse-based artwork. All are designed to minimize the festival's environmental impact and contribute to the preservation of the surrounding environment.
"We are fully aware that this event takes place in an ecologically sensitive area. So we want to leave a positive footprint for nature and the surrounding community. Organizing a green event is indeed not easy, but this is the future direction of the festival industry that we must aim for," added Bagas.
The event received support from synergy between state-owned enterprises, namely Injourney collaborating with PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or BNI for digital transactions, PT Pertamina (Persero) subsidiary PT Pelita Air Service for direct flight access to Labuan Bajo, as well as PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Persero) Tbk or Telkom and its subsidiary PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) to ensure connectivity during the event.
"This collaboration is a real example of how SOEs support the development of tourism destinations and the creative economy in Eastern Indonesia," Troy stated.
In addition, support for IGMJ 2025 also came from Sudamala Resort, Komodo, which was the location for the press conference.
"We are very proud to be part of IGMJ 2025. This festival is in line with our commitment to sustainably advancing Eastern Indonesian culture. Sudamala believes that art and nature can go hand in hand, creating authentic experiences that are not only entertaining, but also educational and inspiring. We hope that this spirit can spread to the entire tourism ecosystem in Eastern Indonesia," divulged Sudamala Resort, Komodo Resort Manager Made Yogiartini.
West Manggarai Regent Edistasius Endi stated that IGMJ 2025 is a strategic moment to promote Golo Mori as a new leading destination. He expressed his commitment to fully support the success of the event through improving infrastructure as well as providing supporting policies and relevant accompanying programs.
"This festival is an important momentum to showcase Golo Mori as a new destination that combines natural beauty, rich music, and cultural heritage. This is in line with our vision in building sustainable and inclusive tourism," said Endi.
