PT HK needs Rp161 trillion for four sections of Trans Sumatra Toll Road
WINDONESIA April 9, 2025
PT Hutama Karya (Persero), or PT HK, still needs Rp161 trillion of funds to continue the construction of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road. PT HK President Director Budi Harto said during a meeting with Indonesian House of Representatives Commission VI on Mar. 3, 2025, that the funding is needed to build four sections connecting Lampung Province to Medan City, North Sumatra Province, namely the Jambi-Rengat, Rengat-Pekanbaru, Dumai-Rantau Prapat, and Rantau Prapat-Kisaran sections.
He added that the financing scheme to continue the construction of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road sections has not been determined, and it is still under discussion with the government whether to use a tariff scheme, periodic payments, or a construction support scheme. The construction of the four sections is planned to be completed in 2031.
"The plan for the 'backbone' section to be connected to Pekanbaru [City, Riau Province] is planned to be completed in 2029 and connected to Medan in 2031," Budi explained.
Overall, the Trans Sumatra Toll Road spans 2,854 kilometers (km) long, but so far only 1,236 km have been funded. Therefore, the infrastructure state-owned enterprise (SOE) is asking for support from House Commission VI so that it could complete the toll road according to its respective plan.
"We have high hopes for support from the honorable ladies and gentlemen for the Trans Sumatra Toll Road's continuance," Budi said.
Throughout 2024, PT HK booked its revenue surging by 15.37 percent year-on-year (yoy) to Rp31.07 trillion. Its net profit also soared by 27.95 percent yoy to Rp2.4 trillion. Budi explained that the SOE's positive performance in 2024 was driven by increased productivity and efficiency in the cost of revenue, operating expenses, and interest expenses. In addition, PT HK's total assets also increased from Rp169.7 trillion in 2023 to Rp195.4 trillion at the end of last year.
