President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated the Bangkinang-XIII Koto Kampar section of the Pekanbaru-Padang Toll Road's Bangkinang-Pangkalan Koto Baru segment in Riau Province on May 31, 2024.

President Jokowi stated that this 24.7 km section is part of the Trans Sumatra Toll Road, which has been under construction from 2019 to 2024 with a budget of Rp4.8 trillion.

The movement of people and goods is expected to be faster with the new toll road, enhancing competitiveness with other countries.

"I urge the governor and the regents to design this toll road to connect with productive areas such as agriculture, plantations, and tourism, so it can significantly benefit the local economy," Jokowi stated.

The Bangkinang-XIII Koto Kampar section was built by construction state-owned enterprises (SOEs) Wijaya Karya and Hutama Karya Infrastruktur. The operation and management of the toll road will be handled by Hutama Karya as the Toll Road Business Entity.

The toll road section aims to improve connectivity and accessibility from Pekanbaru, Riau to West Sumatra Province, boost the economy around Pekanbaru, particularly in Kampar Regency, and increase travel time efficiency from Pekanbaru to Pangkalan Koto Baru at the West Sumatra border.

Additionally, the toll road will provide easier access to tourist areas such as the Muara Takus Temple in Riau and other tourist destinations in West Sumatra. It will also stimulate regional economic growth by serving as a trade route between Riau and West Sumatra.

Public Works and Public Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, who accompanied the president at the project's inauguration, mentioned that in addition to the Bangkinang-XIII Koto Kampar section inaugurated today, the Pekanbaru-Bangkinang segment of the Pekanbaru-Padang Toll Road has been operational since early 2023.
