President Prabowo Subianto has determined several National Strategic Projects (PSN) that will be accelerated over the next five years. This policy is stipulated in Presidential Regulation (Perpres) No. 12/2025 on the 2025-2029 National Medium-Term Development Plan (RPJMN), which was signed on Feb. 10, 2025.

PSNs aim to improve the quality of Indonesia's human resources, reduce poverty, accelerate sustainable economic growth, and encourage equitable development throughout the country. A number of projects in the 2025-2029 PSN list are continuation of ongoing ones, while others are new projects that are expected to have a major impact on the Indonesian people.

PSNs for West Kalimantan in particular include the development of industrial areas, downstreaming of natural resources, and infrastructure projects. The development of the Ketapang Industrial Estate aims to improve natural resource-based industries in West Kalimantan, especially in the processing of plantation and mining products. The industrial area in Ketapang Regency will be managed by private sector firm PT Ketapang Bangun Sarana.

West Kalimantan is one of the provinces included in the mineral resources downstreaming program, including nickel, tin, copper, and especially bauxite. This program will involve mining holding state-owned enterprise (SOE) MIND ID and a number of private companies to increase the added value of mining products before they are exported.

Moreover, the Penebang Island Industrial Area in Penebang Island, North Kayong Regency will be developed as a new industrial area with a focus on export-oriented industries. As one of the aluminium production centers in Indonesia, West Kalimantan will also receive improvement in its aluminium industry through the development of the Toba Aluminium Industrial Estate in Toba District, Sanggau Regency.

In addition to the aforementioned four projects, there are a total of 77 PSN programs throughout Indonesia that Prabowo has ordered to be worked on for the next five years. Almost half of them involve the private sector, some in the form of cooperation with the government or as purely private sector-managed projects.
