CNTY to invest for waste processing, WtE in Singkawang City
WINDONESIA September 12, 2025
The Singkawang City Government is opening up investment opportunities in the city's waste processing industry through a collaboration with Chinese company China Tianying Inc. (CNTY). Singkawang Mayor Tjhai Chui Mie received the CNTY delegation at her official residence in Singkawang City, West Kalimantan Province on Sep. 10, 2025.
Tjhai stated during the meeting that the construction of a modern waste processing plant is crucial to support a green economy while creating added value from waste management. She explained that Singkawang currently produces 95 tons of waste per day.
"That figure is still far from CNTY's minimum requirement of 1,100 tons of waste per day to support the plant's operations," Tjhai acknowledged.
To meet the minimum requirement, the Singkawang City Government will coordinate with neighboring regencies such as Sambas, Bengkayang, and Mempawah. The minimum requirement can be met to build the waste processing plant in Singkawang City if the West Kalimantan regions' volumes of waste are aggregated.
Tjhai emphasized that the plant has strategic economic value. CNTY has an environmentally friendly waste processing technology as it is integrated a waste-to-energy (WtE) mechanism, and the resulting power could then be supplied to electricity state-owned enterprise (SOE) PT PLN's transmission grid.
"In addition to reducing the waste problem, the investment will contribute to regional energy security and create new job opportunities if it is realized," she said.
Tjhai added that with a growing population and increasing economic activity, conventional waste management is no longer sufficient. A modern approach is needed that can produce renewable energy while strengthening the environmentally friendly investment ecosystem.
"We are committed to opening up collaboration with investors, both domestic and international, to create a clean, healthy, and environmentally friendly city," she concluded.
