Central Kalimantan economy rose 4.46 percent c-to-c in 2024

The economy of Central Kalimantan Province grew by 4.46 percent cumulatively (c-to-c) in 2024. Growth occurred in almost all business sectors, except for the contraction experienced by the industrial manufacturing field.

"The business sectors which experienced the highest growth were government administration, defense and compulsory social security at 9.18 percent, followed by mining and excavation at 9.12 percent and water supply at 8.85 percent," said Statistics Indonesia (BPS) Central Kalimantan Province Head Agnes Widiastuti during BPS Central Kalimantan's official release of the province's economic growth data, recently.

Agnes explained that the agriculture, forestry, and fisheries sector as well as wholesale and retail trade, car, and motorcycle repairs sector were both dominant, rising by 1.3 percent and 4.47 percent, respectively.

"Meanwhile, the industrial manufacturing sector experienced a contraction of 0.02 percent. The economy of Central Kalimantan is still dominated by the agricultural, forestry and fisheries business sector which accounted for 22.36 percent [of the province's regional gross domestic product or GDP], followed by the processing industry at 15.75 percent, wholesale and retail trade, car, and motorcycle repair at 12.48 percent, as well as mining and excavation at 10.68 percent," she elaborated.

Agnes added that said four business sectors made up 61.28 percent of the Central Kalimantan economy. When viewed based on the creation of sources of economic growth in 2024, the mining and excavation sector contributed the largest share at 1.27 percent, followed by wholesale and retail trade, car, and motorcycle repair sector at 0.55 percent as well as government administration, defense, and compulsory social security at 0.52 percent.
