“The industrial and trade sectors in Polman will be strengthened to drive regional economic development and foster growth,” West Sulawesi Acting Governor Bahtiar Baharuddin stated in in Mamuju Regency, West Sulawesi on July 21, 2024.
He stated that Polman is the largest rice-producing region in Sulbar, with an annual production level of 167,000 metric tons and a cultivated area of 58,000 hectares (ha).
“The rice industry in Polman is starting to grow, as there is a rice factory owned by [trading sole proprietorship] Nurmadinah in Tenggelang Village, Luyo District which operates using modern technology, specifically rice milling plants from Vietnam and Taiwan,” he said.
Bahtiar noted that the advantage of this factory is its ability to process wet unhulled rice into rice, making it very effective and beneficial for farmers in improving their welfare.
In addition, there is also a pine resin processing factory owned by Kancana Hijau Bina Lestari (KHBL) in Amassang Village, Binuang District, Polman Regency.

“These factories that process agricultural and plantation commodities have employed a lot of labor and contributed to the growth of the agricultural and plantation sectors, advancing the regional economy,” he said.
Therefore, Bahtiar stated that the Sulbar Provincial Government will strive to assist and nurture community business groups to build new industries that utilizes raw materials from Polam's agricultural and plantation industries.
“Polman will be developed into an industrial and trade center because several factories are starting to emerge, and the government will continue to create a conducive economic climate and support the community in developing each enterprise,” he said.
