Solo Jenang Festival 2025 celebrates Surakarta's 280th anniversary

The Solo Jenang Festival to commemorate Surakarta City's 280th anniversary took place in a festive manner at the Ngarsopuro Corridor and Pamedan Pura Mangkunegaran in Surakarta City, Central Java Province on Feb. 17, 2025.

Since morning, thousands of residents have crowded the event location, which displays 17 types of jenang, a confection made from a base of palm sugar and coconut milk, as a symbol of the birth of the city.

The event successfully distributed 11,000 packs of jenang served on takir, a food container shaped like a boat made from banana leaves, for free to the public.

The festival also invited school children to participate. As many as 1,000 students took part in a mass coconut grating activity as part of the process to make jenang.

"We want children to be the foundation of the future in preserving the jenang tradition," said Heru.

In addition to free distribution, residents can also enjoy jenang for at least Rp10 through payments using the Bank Indonesia (BI) Quick Response Code Indonesia Standard (QRIS) organized by BI Solo Representative Office.
