Two, three more Apple vendors to follow AirTag's investment in Indonesia
WINDONESIA February 19, 2025
Investment and Downstream Minister/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Head Rosan Perkasa Roeslani revealed that in addition to the AirTag factory in Batam City, Riau Islands Province there are several other Apple vendors that are in the process of investing in Indonesia.
The entry of one of Apple's AirTag vendor will be followed by other investments, which is expected to help Indonesia become part of the global supply chain for Apple products.
"There are [more Apple vendor investments coming], this (AirTag's investment) is just the first stage. I believe it will grow, [and] I am sure the vendors will increase. Especially since we currently have only one [Apple vendor] compared to Vietnam which already hosted 34," said Rosan at the Fairmont Hotel Jakarta on Feb. 11, 2025.
He said that currently there are two to three other Apple vendors who are in the discussion stage to invest in Indonesia. However, Rosan did not provide further information when asked about the investment value proposed by the vendors.
As is known, Apple has shown interest in investing in Indonesia through the factory of its vendor AirTag in Batam. However, the investment value is not up to the US$1 billion (about 16.2 trillion at Rp16,280 per US$1) that was expected by the Indonesian government.
