The 2024 Karo Flower and Fruit Festival Approaches

On top of its wealth of beautiful natural tourism, Berastagi District in Karo Regency is also famous for its interesting tradition. One of them is the annual Karo Flower and Fruit Festival.
The festival is an iconic series of events held as a form of gratitude by the Karo people for the fertility of their land. Initially, the Karo Flower and Fruit Festival was only held at the village level, but it has developed into a regency-level celebration.
Every July, all villages in Karo Regency participate in a carnival which showcases their agricultural products and aim to strengthen local ties.
The festival has several activities during the days it is being held which are joined by enthusiastic participants. The usual events include:
1. The Flower and Fruit Parade
The Karo Flower and Fruit Festival begins with the arrival of parade contingents shocasing various harvests from Tanah Karo, such as oranges, snake fruit, bananas, carrots, and various types of vegetables typical of the area. The event featured cars decorated with flowers and fruit, and it is attended by thousands of local residents and foreign tourists.
On top of being able to take photos with the various decorated cars, visitors can also take fruit and flowers that have been prepared by the event organizers.
2. Local Product Exhibition
The local product exhibition features the participation of dozens of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the craft and culinary fields. Various MSMEs, both those supported by the government and the ones mostly privately-funded, participated in exhibiting their main products.
The UMKM exhibition presents various typical Karo crafts such as Uis, Ulos, art made from corn husks, Karo oil, and various other products that reflect the rich culture and creativity of the local people. The exhibition also includes decorative flower traders who sell various characteristic Tanah Karo flowers and other beautiful plants at affordable prices.
3. Concerts by Local and National Musicians
The Karo Flower and Fruit Festival is further enlivened by various performances by local musicians who perform ethnic songs throughout the event starting from the first day. National Musicians are usually also invited for the festival's peak night. This event will also feature local dances and involve all elements of local society, including children.
The 2024 Karo Flower and Fruit Festival will be held from Jul. 4 to 6, 2024 at the Mejuah-Juah Park Field in Berastagi District, Karo Regency, North Sumatra Province.
