Southwest Papua Promotes Digital-Based Tourism Village
May 20, 2024The Southwest Papua Provincial Government is promoting Malaumkarta Village in Makbon District, Sorong Regency to become a digital-based tourism village.
That goal was revealed by Southwest Papua Province Regional Secretary Eksan Musa'ad, also ex-officio Southwest Papua Province Economics and Development Administration (PAPP) Bureau Head, during the media briefing for the Torang Creative and Ecotourism Festival at the ASTON Sorong Hotel & Conference Center on May 15, 2024.
Eksan explained that the tourism potential of Southwest Papua would not develop compared to other regions if it is managed in a standard or ordinary way. He emphasized how the world has now entered the digital era, and therefore, the direction of village development must also continuously adapt.
“We are proud because Malaumkarta, which was also a 2023 Tourism Village, is becoming a pilot project for a digital-based tourism village,” said Eksan.
The Torang Creative and Ecotourism Festival is part of the Southwest Papua Provincial Government’s efforts to promote tourism in collaboration with partners like Bank Indonesia (BI) and the Communications and Informatics Ministry.
Eksan stated that developing digital-based tourism certainly requires internet as a supporting facility. Therefore, the collaboration involves preparing infrastructure such as internet networks in Malaumkarta
“We agree that tourism should be a leading sector in Southwest Papua, and therefore, it must be prioritized in our internal government programs moving forward,” he concluded.
