Seren Taun Kasepuhan Gelar Alam, Part of West Java's Development

Sukabumi Regent Marwan Hamami called the 656th Seren Taun of Kasepuhan Gelar Alam in Sirnaresmi Village, Cisolok District, Sukabumi Regency, West Java Province as a vessel of unification between kasepuhans of Cisolok District. They include Gelar Alam, Sinaresmi, and Ciptamulya.

"I am proud to see the togetherness of the three kasepuhans. [We must] strengthen our culture with the same determination. We will continue to encourage the three kasepuhans' various potential with the support of adequate infrastructure on top of agriculture and culture," he explained while attending the pak of the 656th Seren Taun Kasepuhan Gelar Alam on Oct. 6, 2024.

Marwan added that cultural preservation is important in the current era of modernization, so that the traditions their accompanying tradition could be experienced by future generations. He also noted that Seren Taun Kasepuhan Gelar Alam has been included in the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry's Karisma Event Nusantara calendar for three consecutive years.

"[We must] maintain the traditional culture of the three kasepuhans, don't let it fade due to the passing of time," Marwan requested.

"[We must] continue to develop several kasepuhans in Sukabumi Regency in order to implement Presidential Regulation No. 87/2021 on the Acceleration of Development of the South West Java Region," he concluded.

At the same occasion, the Kasepuhan Gelar Alam Traditional Elder Abah Ugi Sugriana Rakasiwi explained that the seren taun tradition has existed for hundreds of years. He added that it is an expression of gratitude for abundant harvests.

"This seren taun is an expression of gratitude to God for the produce [we] obtain," Marwan said.
