President Prabowo Subianto asked his subordinates to review the Java Giant Sea Wall (GSW) project stretching from Jakarta to Cirebon as a National Strategic Program (PSN) for 2025. Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto explained that the directive was based on the results of an internal meeting led by Prabowo on the development of special economic zones (SEZs) and the completion of several PSNs from 2024 to 2025.

"We have already built the Semarang-Demak toll road [that would be integrated with the Java GSW]. Now this [Java GSW] is requested as a priority starting from Jakarta to Cirebon," he revealed at the Jakarta Presidential Palace Complex on Nov. 26, 2024.

Airlangga explained that the Jakarta-Cirebon section of the Java GSW will be connected to the already-constructed flood and tidal control embankment in the Tambaklorok Nautical Village, North Semarang District, Semarang City, Central Java Province. He added that the GSW is included in the list of PSNs for 2025 as part of efforts to realize energy and food security.

The president gave direction for the project to be prepared with financing through the public-private partnership (PPP) scheme. He also ordered to accelerate the construction progress of PSNs that are targeted for completion in the 2024-2025 period.

"Because 18 projects are planned to be completed this year, while 30 more will be completed in 2025," Airlangga divulged.
