Lamaholot Festival 2024 Strengthens Three Regencies' Cooperation

The Lamaholot Festival was officially opened on Oct. 16, 2024, and is expected to become a cultural force that can strengthen cooperation between regions. That aim was conveyed by the Acting Lembata Regent Paskalis Ola Tapobali through Lembata Regent's Expert Staff Donatus Boli when opening the activity.

Donatus emphasized the festival's importance as a means to strengthen Lamaholot cultural values ​​​​and strengthen cooperation between the three regencies in the Lamaholot cultural region, namely Lembata, East Flores, and Alor.

"The Lamaholot Festival [expresses] the spirit of mutual cooperation of those three regencies. Through this festival, we unite to strengthen our identity in this archipelago," he added.

Donatus noted that collaboration between regions isnecessary for economic development, especially through good connectivity. The festival is a step that is expected to be able to encourage economic growth in the Lamaholot cultural region.

In a written speech read by Donatus, Paskalis also expressed his appreciation to the ourism and Creative Economy Ministry for selecting the Lamaholot Festival as one of the events in the 2024 Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) calendar. The festival is referred to as a strategic step in promoting the potential of culture- and environment-based tourism in Lembata.

The Lamaholot Festival, which lasts for four days, presents various cultural attractions, carnivals, and traditional rituals to attract tourists. The activities are expected to boost tourism and the creative economy in the Lamaholot cultural region.

The opening ceremony was also attended by members of the Lembata Regional Legislative Council (DPRD), the Lembata Assistant Regional Secretary, members of the Lembata Regency Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), East Flores Tourism Office Head Silvester Kabelen, leaders of Lembata Regency Government apparatus, district heads, and other invited guests.

The Lamaholot Festival also provides the momentum to strengthen the cultural wealth of the Lamaholot people and optimize the tourism potential of the regencies of Lembata, East Flores, and Alor.
