Jokowi Inaugurates 24 Regional Roads in Aceh

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo inaugurated 24 regional roads with a length of 196 kilometers and a 60-meter bridge in 14 regions within Aceh Province on Oct. 15, 2024. the regional roads are part of the implementation of the Presidential Instruction on Regional Roads (IJD).

"By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim this morning, I inaugurate the implementation of the IJD in Aceh Province," Jokowi said  during the inauguration in Blang Bintang District, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat YouTube broadcast on Oct. 15, 2204.

The 14 regions where the developments are enacted encompass the regencies of East Aceh, Bireuen, Simeulue, Aceh Besar, Pidie, Pidie Jaya, North Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Aceh Jaya, Southwest Aceh, Nagan Raya, Gayo Lues, Bener Meriah as well as the city of Langsa.

"It [the program] costs Rp686 billion," he said.

Jokowi further revealed that the roads and bridges aim to provide connectivity between regencies, cities, and between provinces. The infrastructure would be good for the movement of both people and goods.

Damaged roads will hamper logistics, which would later affect the prices that have to be paid by local communities.

"Therefore, a Presidential Instruction on regional roads was issued to repair damaged roads [and] damaged bridges," Jokowi explained.

"We hope that the movement of people and goods in Aceh Province, as well as the speed of logistics distribution, will be better with the construction of and repair for those roads," he added.

Also present to accompany President Jokowi at the inauguration were Home Affairs Minister Tito Karnavian, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi, Commander of the Indonesian Military (TNI) General Agus Subiyanto, Indonesian National Police (POLRI) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Acting Aceh Governor Safrisal ZA, and Acting Aceh Besar Regent Muhammad Iswanto.
