Jayawijaya Government Holds Tourism Development Seminar
June 25, 2024The Jayawijaya Regency Government is committed to advancing the development of the regency's tourism industry, including by holding an introductory seminar on tourism development with dozens of tourism managers in Jayawijaya, Highland Papua Province.
Jayawijaya Regency Regional Secretary Thonny M. Mayor said that the seminar was a step to get input from tourism managers on matters such as security factors that hinder an increase in tourism to the regency.
"The security factor is a serious concern for the local community and government, because if many guests visit tourist attractions in Wamena (Jayawijaya's capital district) then the community's economy and regional income could improve," Mayor stated on May 27, 2024.
Therefore, the Jayawijaya Regional Secretary invites all parties to collaborate in support of the Indonesian Military and Indonesian Policy to maintain security in Wamena District, Jayawijaya Regency.
"The local community also plays an important role in maintaining security. It is hoped that future tourism development could improve further through this dicussion," he said.
Meanwhile, Jayawijaya Regency Regional Development Planning Agency Ludya Eruleke Logo explained that the tourism promotion event is an expression of the government's care in developing tourism for the local community.
"We made a presentation in front of the Tourism Minister's Expert Staff yesterday, and they are basically ready [to support us] when we have supporting documents for proposing Special Allocation Funds (DAK) for [Highland Papua's] tourism sector," he explained.
Eruleke noted that as the capital of the Papua Highlands Province, Jayawijaya needed improvements to its tourism industry. The government also has to give its attention to the regency's infrastructure, clean water, and drainage.
"For our tourism development master plans, we are drafting plans for 10 tourist attractions which are adjusted according to conditions in each area. As such, the introductory seminar is our first step by bringing together tourism managers," Eruleke added.
The Bappeda Jayawijaya Head also confirmed that he would continue to encourage a more even development for the local tourism industry, such as the white sand beach tourist attraction, the mummies in Pisugi District, the Kumugima tourist attraction in Libarek District, as well as tourist spots in other districts.
"We will resolve the hampered accessibility of roads and toilet facilities by utilizing the DAK. Road and toilet facilities are to be improved in collaboration with the Public House and Public Housing Ministry PUPR, speedboats to be provided by working with the Transportation Ministry so that there is synergy between regional agencies and offices to answer local problems," he said.
Furthermore, Eruleke hopes that there will be suggestions and input from tourism observers, including tourist guides for the development of tourist attractions in Jayawijaya.
"We hope there will be input and suggestions, so that the master plans could be sharpened and refined with said input," concluded Ludya Logo.
