Innovation and Investment Week Aims to Increase Green Investment
May 29, 2024Acting North Sumatra Governor Hassanudin officially opened the 10th Innovation and Investment Week at the Maimun Palace parking area in Medan City, North Sumatraa. Hassanudin highlighted the North Sumatra Provincial Government's efforts to enhance green investment during the event on May 15, 2024
"North Sumatra, one of the strongest drivers of the economy outside Java, is currently striving to boost investment, particularly in green initiatives," Hassanudin stated.
The Innovation and Investment Week which ran from May 15 to May 18, 2024 includes exhibitions, talk shows, talent competitions, regional fashion shows, and cultural performances.
Hassanudin emphasized that increasing green investment supports the central government's goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2060. The initiative aims to mitigate the rise in global temperature and its adverse effects on weather, ecosystems, and human life.
He also called for collaboration and synergy from all sectors, including the government, private institutions, educational entities, and businesses, to promote green investment through the development of downstream products, especially in plantations, food, and natural resource processing.
In the 2024 Regional Development Plan (RPD), North Sumatra targets an investment realization of Rp40.35 trillion. By the first quarter of 2024, 25 percent of this target, or around Rp10.13 trillion, had already been achieved. The leading sectors are transportation, warehousing, and telecommunications, with an investment realization of Rp2.89 trillion.
During the event, Hassanudin also discussed preparations for the XXI National Sports Week (PON) that is to be held in North Sumatra and Aceh from Sep. 8 to 20, 2024. He urged all North Sumatra residents to support and participate in the event.
Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Office (DPMPTSP) Head Faisal Arief Nasution explained that this annual event by the North Sumatra Provincial Government aims to establish strategic communication about investment and regional potential, as well as to create effective and objective information and promotion channels for regional development.
"The event seeks to market strategic and potential products, as well as creative and innovative works by the community, business partners, and other institutions. It serves as a medium for promoting arts and culture, as well enhancing creativity in science, technology, arts, and culture, thereby boosting North Sumatra's economic competitiveness," he explained.
The Innovation and Investment Week featured 47 participants, including ministries, provincial and district government agencies, region-owned enterprises, universities, hospitals, banks, small and medium enterprises (SMEs), as well as others. The event's qctivities include exhibitions, talk shows, talent competitions, regional fashion shows by Regional Branches of the National Handicraft Association (Dekranasda) from across North Sumatra, and cultural performances.
Notable attendees included Deli Sultan Mahmud Lamantjiji Perkasa Alam, members of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), several regents and mayors, North Sumatra Provincial Government officials, consulates of countries which have friendly relations with Indonesia, such as Malaysia, Turkey, India, Japan, and Korea, as well as representatives from companies, banks, regional-owned enterprises (BUMD), state-owned enterprises (SOEs), students, and the general public.
