The Investment Ministry/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) and the Indonesian Consulate General in Penang, held the Indonesia-Malaysia Investment Forum 2024 on Nov. 5, 2024, at the Swiss Avenue Hotel in Kedah, Malaysia. The event aims to strengthen economic relations between Indonesia and Malaysia by presenting various investment opportunities, fostering partnerships, and encouraging Indonesian companies and Malaysian investors to expand their networks.

Kedah, which offers increasingly attractive investment opportunities in agricultural technology, food processing, and packaging, is an ideal location for the event. The Indonesia-Malaysia Investment Forum 2024 also includes a panel discussion on downstream industries, investment opportunities in the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), and the Batang Industrial Park (BIP).

The Indonesia-Malaysia Investment Forum 2024 was attended by several industry associations in Malaysia from Penang and Kedah, as well as stakeholders from various sectors in Indonesia, including representatives from the Ministry of Investment/BKPM, the IKN Authority, the BIP, the Indonesia Investment Promotion Center (IIPC) Singapore, and the Financial Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Singapore.

In his presentation, BKPM Investment Promotion Director for Asia, Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Saribua Siahaan, emphasized the role downstream investment in transforming raw material exporters into competitive producers that produce value-added products. He added that such investments could bring long-term economic and environmental benefits if managed sustainably.

Siahaan also discussed the investment potential of the IKN and BIP, especially in the fields of renewable energy, infrastructure, advanced manufacturing, and downstream industries. Through strategic collaboration, the investment potential offers good prospects for economic growth and job creation.

US Pizza, the third largest fast food chain in Malaysia, issued an Investment Announcement as a form of investment commitment in Indonesia at the event. The company wants to expand by opening around 30 new outlets in Indonesia with an investment value of RM10 million, or about equal to Rp36.7 billion.

Indonesian Consulate-General in Penang Wanton Saragih, assessed that this Investment Announcement symbolizes the commitment of the Indonesian Consulate General in Penang to encourage Foreign Investment (PMA) in Indonesia. He also discussed the Indonesian Consulate General in Penang's role in promoting Indonesia's economic potential among businesspeople in Penang, Kedah, and Perlis.

The Indonesia-Malaysia Investment Forum 2024 also included face-to-face meetings so that participants could discuss potential collaborations and explore available investment opportunities.
