Acting Central Papua Province Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Office Head Bernard conveyed during the 79th Public Works Service Day commemoration ceremony at the Old Nabire Airport on Dec. 3, 2024 that the Central Papua PUPR Office is committed to accelerating infrastructure development through collaboration with the PUPR Ministry.

"We have made a strategic plan for next year. Collaboration with [the PUPR Ministry's] National Road Implementation Center (BPJN) [Central Papua] and the River Basin Center (BWS) will be the key to accelerating development," he told reporters.

Bernard said that the Central Papua PUPR Office will construct road access to mountainous areas in 2025, such as Intan Jaya, Puncak, and Puncak Jaya. In addition, housing will be built in various areas to support the local community's needs.

"Currently, we are focusing on resolving non-technical obstacles that often hinder development projects, such as blockades by the community. We are optimistic that strategic infrastructure projects in remote areas will be completed on time even though there are technical and social challenges," he said.

Meanwhile, BPJN Central Papua Head Wijayanto said that the construction of roads, which are aimed at resolving isolation of mountainous areas, is being worked on.

"Our priority projects include road construction in Waigete-Timika, Enarotali, and access to the provincial border. We are targeting that this access will be fully connected by 2025," explained Wijayanto.

The government is also preparing the construction of the offices of the Central Papua Governor and Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) which is planned to use allocated state budget funds. While waiting for the completion of the construction, a temporary location will be provided to support local government operations. He hopes that the acceleration of development in the next five years can be realized with full support from the central government

"The President is very focused on development in Papua, and we will synergize well between the center and regions to ensure that all targets are achieved," he said.
