BPN Fest 2024 Has "Nusantara Creative" as Its Theme

Balikpapan Fest (BPN Fest) 2024 was officially opened by Balikpapan City Acting Mayor Ahmad Muzzakir on Sep. 26, 2024 with "Nusantara Creative" as its theme. The event, which was held at the Balikpapan Sport and Convention Center (BSCC) Dome Building in Balikpapan City, East Kalimantan Province, lasts until Sep. 29, 2024.

The event was attended by 106 tenants offering various creative products from the arts, culture, and tourism sectors. This fifth edition of BPN Fest has a budget reaching hundreds of millions of rupiah. It is also part of the Karisma Event Nusantara (KEN) program organized by the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry.

BPN Fest 2024 is targeting 20,000 visits, an increase of around 10 percent from 2023, with an expected revenue of Rp4 billion.

"I congratulate and express my deepest appreciation to the [Balikpapan City] Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office for initiating this festival," Ahmad stated.

He further explained that the event provides space for the youth, artists, and creative industry actors to express themselves and showcase their talents in various fields.

"The festival's 'Nusantara Creative' theme is very relevant to the great potential that we have. The Nusantara is a source of invaluable cultural wealth," Ahmad explained.

He also noted that the creative industry has now become a very strategic sector in driving the economy, especially amid the challenges of the digital era and globalization. Promotion of local creativity combined with modern technology could create new opportunities that can advance the creative economy sector in Balikpapan City.

"This [festival] not only opens up employment opportunities, but also strengthens our cultural identity on the national and international stage," Ahmad said.

Moreover, he hopes that extraordinary works that inspire and bring positive change for both Balikpapan and Indonesia as a whole could emerge at the event.

"I also invite the youth and creative industry actors to continue to innovate and collaborate. Let us take advantage of this momentum to build a sustainable creative ecosystem in Balikpapan City, where new ideas continue to emerge and benefit the wider society," he said.

The event's opening was attended by Balikpapan City Regional Secretary Muhaimin, Balikpapan Youth, Sports, and Tourism Office Head Ratih Kusuma. Also present were Nova Aristi, Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry Marketing Deputy, House of Representatives Commission X Deputy Chair Hetifah Sjaifudian, and East Kalimantan Province Tourism Office Head Ririn Sari Dewi.
