Three leading tourist villages from West Sumatra have successfully entered the top 50 of the 2024 Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI) and are poised to compete for the top honors in Indonesia.

West Sumatra Province Tourism Office Head Luhur Budianda announced on Jun. 3, 2024, in Padang that the three villages are the disaster risk reduction (DRR)-based Ecotourism Village Nagari Ampiang Parak in South Pesisir Regency, the Lake Diateh Alahan Panjang Tourism Village in Solok Regency, and the Pesona Pagadih Tourism Village in Agam Regency.

The PRB-based Ecotourism Village Nagari Ampiang Parak is situated in Sutera District, South Pesisir. This village is unique for its ecotourism focus centered around DRR. Visitors can engage in activities such as releasing turtles, exploring mangroves, diving at the Gosong Nambi shipwreck, and enjoying local culinary delights and souvenirs.

The Lake Diateh Alahan Panjang Tourism Village, located in Nagari Alahan Panjang, Lembah Gumanti District, Solok Regency, offers breathtaking views of agricultural lands and the lake. Known as the "cold city without snow," tourists here can camp by the lake, fish, and pick fresh vegetables directly from the garden.

The Pesona Pagadih Tourism Village, in Palupuh District, Agam Regency, offers a diverse range of tourism experiences, including nature, cultural, religious, and historical tourism. Notable attractions include the Bukik Ngalau Limestone Cave and a conservation area, enhancing its potential as an ecotourism village. Visitors can enjoy the Sarasah Pagadih Gadang waterfall, camp on Tontong Hill, and participate in cultural festivals.

Luhur expressed optimism about the potential of these three villages in ADWI 2024, stating, "We certainly hope that these three tourist villages will not only stop at the top 50 nationally but can become the best."

Previously, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry announced the top 50 best tourist villages in the 2024 ADWI. Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Salahuddin Uno highlighted that the best village in ADWI 2024 was chosen through a rigorous curation process, analysis, and objective assessment by the jury team.
