The 2024 Rang Solok Baralek Gadang (RSBG) event successfully amazed visitors with Solok City's various traditional arts and culinary specialties.

The event, which lasted for three days from Sep. 19-21, 2024 in Solok City, West Sumatra Province, further confirmed that the city has cultural attractions worthy of being included in the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry's Karisma Event Nusantara 2024 calendar.

The first day began with the Malambuik Padi procession led by Solok Mayor Zul Elfian Umar and Deputy Mayor Ramadhani Kirana Putra.

The Malambuik Padi tradition is a characteristic activity of Solok City residents when harvesting rice, where the process of separating rice grains from their stems is carried out by hitting the rice against a wooden tool placed crosswise in a rice container box.

On the second day, the Marandang Festival was in the spotlight, attended by all districts of Solok.

The city's vicinity has soil contour and fertility that supports the growth of high-quality spices, creating a rendang flavor that is different from other regions of West Sumatra. In addition to rendang, another Solok City culinary specialty that was showcased is Sarang Bareh.

Another interesting attraction is the performance of hundreds of members of the Silek Tuo Sinapa Piliang Association.

This original Minang silat discipline is performed in the wet rice fields of Solok, displaying graceful and stunning movements reflecting the beauty and strength of West Sumatra's silat.

On the third day, visitors were treated to the excitement of the Anak Nagari Batuang Gilo Game.

The game's players hugs a bamboo which moved as if by an invisible force, presenting a tense and exciting sensation for visitors. The game, which is considered to have mystical elements, adds to the excitement of the event.

RSBG 2024 was then closed with a performance by famous artists from Padang City. Solok Mayor Zul stated in his speech that this event was an effort to promote Solok City as both the Porch of Medina and the Rice City.

"As a city nicknamed the Rice City, this event is synonymous with food security, cultural customs, and natural beauty combined," he said.

Zul added that the activity is expected to provide an economic impact for the people of Solok City.

"The livelihoods of the local community, which are dominated by the agricultural, plantation, and trade sectors, are combined into one in the expanse of rice fields with a 'Back to Nature' feel. This [event] is a stage for agriculture-based tourism and creative economy actors to showcase their works," he explained.

Zul closed his speech with the hope that the RSBG event could introduce Solok City to the national and international stage.

"Hopefully the event could bring benefits for the people of Solok City and make it famous among local and foreign tourists," he concluded.
