Investment and Downstreaming Minister/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Head Rosan Perkasa Roeslani visited the PT Indonesia Weda Bay Industrial Park (IWIP) area in Central Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province on Jan. 13, 2025. IWIP President Director Xiang Binghe said that Rosan's was a form of support from the Indonesian government and people, especially in the regency, for the Weda Bay Project's development to maximize nickel downstreaming.

"Without this support, this integrated industrial area would not have been able to develop rapidly. [That rapid progress is signaled] by its workforce reaching more than 80,000 workers and [the area's] significant contribution to improving the economy of North Maluku," he said.

Xiang stated that Rosan's arrival was welcomed directly by himself, IWIP Vice President Director Kevin He, IWIP Director Scott Ye, and the company's management team.

Rosan is the third member of the Red and White Cabinet to visit the Weda Bay Project in the past three months. Previously, Industry Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita and Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, had already visited the area.

"While at the Weda Bay Project, the Investment and Downstream Minister/BKPM Head received an explanation from [myself as] the IWIP President Director about the various nickel processed products made in the Weda Bay Project area. Minister Rosan also visited various infrastructure and facilities [in the region], including the power plant, port, PT Huafei, and PT Huaneng," he said.

PT Huafei is a company operating in the Weda Bay Project area which has the largest High Pressure Acid Leaching (HPAL) project in the world.

Meanwhile, PT Huaneng is a company that will export nickel precursors to North America and Europe in 2025.
