PUPR Ministry Completes Development of Tondano Area

WINDONESIA July 31, 2024 The Tondano Area in Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi. (PUPR Ministry).

The Public Works and Public Housing Ministry has completed its development of the Tondano Area in Minahasa Regency, North Sulawesi Province to support local tourism as is one of the vital sectors that can drive the regional economy.

The Tondano Area is created to develop tourism infrastructure in the Lake Tondano area, with its own development part of the Settlement Infrastructure Development Plan (RPIP).

"Lake Tondano is one of the lakes that is prioritized for national management. Its status has also been stated in the North Sulawesi Regional Regulation (Perda) [No. 1/2014]," the Ministry's Residential Area Development Director Wahyu Kusumosusanto stated in Jakarta on July 29, 2024.

He stated that the North Sulawesi Perda no. 1/2014 contains the North Sulawesi Provincial Regional Spatial Plan (RTRW) for 2014-2034, which stipulates the Tondano River Basin's Conservation and Tourism Areas.

Meanwhile, North Sulawesi Governor Olly Dondokambey appreciated the Ministry's support for tourism development in Minahasa Regency.

The Tondano Area's arrangement is expected to not only increase the Lake Tondano area's tourism appeal, but it is also aimed to have a positive impact on the local economy. The provision of pedestrian facilities and revitalization of office and shopping areas are expected to encourage increased economic activity in the region.

In addition, improvements to drainage channels and sidewalks will reduce the risk of flooding and waterlogging, thus roviding comfort and security for local residents and visitors.
