Nusa Penida Festival 2024 Opened at Devil Tears
October 13, 2024The 7th edition of Nusa Penida Festival in 2024 was officially opened by Tourism and Creative Economy Main Expert Nia Niscaya of the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry/Agency (Baparekraf) at Devil Tears in Nusa Lembongan Island within Nusa Penida District, Klungkung Regency, Bali Province on Oct. 10, 2024.
The opening began with the Pekelem Ceremony accompanied by Peed Sanganan Pengeluar from Lembongan Village, and the Rejang Renteng Dance by 1000 dancers from the villages of Lembongan and Jungutbatu.
Then, the opening ceremony was marked by the beating of the gong by the Acting Klungkung Regent I Nyoman Jendrika together with Bali Governor's Human Development and Culture Expert Staff I Made Sudarsana, Bali Provincial Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) Klungkung Electoral District Representative I Nyoman Suwirta,Klungkung Regency Regional Secretary Anak Agung Gede Lesmana, Klungkung Regency Tourism Office Head Ni Made Sulistiawati, and other related officials.
Jendrika stated that the Nusa Penida Festival has been held every October since 2014, but it was paused for 3 years due to the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 to 2022. The Klungkung Regency Government restarted the festival since 2023 to advance Nusa Penida tourism and stimulate local economy in support of the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry's programs.
"We should be proud that the Nusa Penida Festival has been included in the KEN (Karisma Event Nusantara) after passing a very strict selection, hence it has become a national flagship event through the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry," he said.
Jendrika added that the Nusa Penida Festival is to be held for three days from Oct. 10 to 12, 2024, with various activities such as cultural attractions, cultural conservation, competitions, fun trips, music, as well as micro, small, and medium enterprise exhibitions, and so on.
The festival's theme is "The Essence of Island Life," which describes the peaceful natural beauty and unique cultural traditions that reflects simplicity, harmony with nature, and a sense of togetherness which makes life on the island special and authentic.
The Nusa Penida Festival is held with the aim of introducing Nusa Penida's tourism potential to increase tourist visits, and it is also combined with the launching of the Nusa Lembongan Road to Digital Island Blueprint.
"It is hoped that the Nusa Penida Festiva will add to the spirit for the advancement of tourism and the economy in Klungkung Regency, especially for Nusa Penida," Jendrika said.
Meanwhile, Nia Niscaya greatly appreciates the implementation of the Nusa Penida Festival. She admitted that the festival was truly extraordinary. In addition to introducing the potential of the island's natural beauty, it also promoted the local traditional customs and culture.
