The North Kalimantan Provincial Government is trying to accelerate the transfer of 10 percent participating interest (PI) from the North Kalimantan Province's oil and gas working areas.

"To accelerate the realization, it is necessary to build effective communication to realize the 10 percent PI," North Kalimantan Governor Zainal Arifin Paliwang stated in Tarakan City, North Kalimantan, while attending a coordination meeting on the 10 percent PI transfer from North Kalimantan's oil and gas working areas.

The coordination meeting discussed the progress of PI transfer from the Nunukan, Tarakan, Seimenggaris, and Tarakan Offshore oil and gas working areas, as well as the efforts that could made by the North Kalimantan Provincial Government for the transfer of 10 percent PI 10 percent to be achieved.

"That's why we invited them [North Kalimantan ] so that it could be realized immediately. If there are obstacles and things that we need to prepare, then they should be communicated well," Zainal said .

He added that Kaltara has great oil and gas potential, since there are many wells that could be managed optimally there.

"That include old wells, and how we could increase the production volume in Tarakan in collaboration with SKK Migas (Upstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Special Task Force)," the North Kalimantan Governor said.

Zainal noted that oil and gas are strategic natural resources and vital commodities for the national economy that control the livelihoods of many people. Hence, their management must be able to optimally provide prosperity and welfare for the people through the 10 percent PI obtained from the work contract for facilities that must be offered by region-owned enterprises or their contractors.

"The hope for the future is that the [transfer of the] 10 percent PI will be realized more quickly so that it [revenue from the oil and gas working areas] can contribute to the [welfare] of North Kalimantan's people," he concluded.
