The Tuantapa Tourism Community (Kotatua) and South Aceh Regency Tourism Office Head Muchsin organized a tourism exploration at Sawang Cave and the nearby bathing spots in Sawang District, South Aceh on May 19, 2024.

The purpose of the visit was to uncover the region's natural beauty and hidden tourism potential.

Muchsin expressed his admiration for Sawang Cave, which features unique and stunning natural formations, during the activity. The cave’s stalactites and stalagmites, shaped like wedding altars and elephant trunks, are major attractions.

“The beauty of the stalactites here is comparable to the artificial Stalactite Cave on Sentosa Island, Singapore,” said Muchsin.

He noted that Sawang Cave’s tourism potential could be enhanced with improved lighting and area management. The cave's large rooms and labyrinthine passages provide a distinctive natural tourism experience.

Muchsin also emphasized the potential of the natural bathing spots around the cave, where visitors can enjoy the fresh pool water and river flow.

Tourism at Sawang Cave and its natural bathing spots boosts the local economy. The rise of small cafes along the Tringmeduro-Panton Luas road, particularly near the tourism sites, signals positive local economic growth.

Muchsin hopes that tourism managers will preserve the area's natural environment and maintain its cleanliness. He also urged visitors to avoid littering.

Kotatua member Ainul was also impressed by the beauty of Sawang Cave. He and his group explored the cave to a depth of 200-250 meters, discovering intriguing stalagmites and stalactites.

“The exact depth of this cave is still unknown. According to local stories, the cave might extend to the Samadua District,” Ainul, who is also the South Aceh Tourism Ambassadoe, said.

Kotatua Field Coordinator Kamaruzaman explained that their primary goal was to explore Sawang Cave and promote this new tourism destination through various media channels.

“We hope that Sawang Cave and the natural bathing spots in Sawang can become leading tourist destinations in South Aceh, attracting both local and international tourists,” he concluded.
