Kadin Papua: Papua Province Gets Investments for Downstreaming Efforts

Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) Papua Province Chairman Ronald Antonio Bonai said that in Papua Province, a number of investments have entered downstreaming efforts in its economic sectors.

"One of them is in Biak, investments [has went into] the downstreaming its fisheries and plantation sectors, such as for coffee. There are currently many investments for coffee, but in small amounts. For example, there are some in Wamena, even in Serui as well as various other places," he told reporters after attending a business forum held by the Investment Ministry/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) at a hotel in Sentani District, Jayapura Regency, Papua Province to promote investment to Papua Province's downstream sectors.

In addition, Ronald revealed that Kadin also helped open the border trade cooperation signed by the Indonesian Government and the Papua Guinea Government (PNG) some time ago.

He also requested for that small mines operating in several areas in Papua to be accommodated so that their production are coordinated to be sold together to larger enterprises.

"At least we should process them to provide with official permits, which would automatically affect the [Papua Provincial] Government's PAD (locally-generated revenue)," Ronald said.

Ronald admitted that regarding obstacles to investing in Papua, especially in the matter of land uncertainty.

"I think it is the job of the local government to take promptly care of [both] land and security issues. The entry of investment certainly has an impact on opening up jobs, which would improve the income that the local community could earn," he said.
