The Jayapura Regency Communication and Informatics Agency has partnered with the local Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) to promote investments in the sharia capital market through the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) and Phillip Sekuritas Indonesia.

Jayapura Communication and Informatics Agency Head Gustaf Griapon stated in Sentani District, Jayapura Regency on Jun. 6, 2024, that the sharia capital market aligns with Islamic principles, prohibiting usury, excessive speculation, and investments in forbidden businesses.

"In the sharia capital market system, sharia-compliant financial systems offer investments that adhere to religious values and are transparently accessible, encouraging hundreds to thousands of civil servants, the general public, and military and police personnel to invest," he said.

Gustaf emphasized the shift towards digitalization, stating that all forms of investment should also go digital, particularly in the sharia capital market.

"This initiative is to ensure that Muslims in Jayapura Regency support the success of digital literacy within the framework of the sharia capital market, established in collaboration with the IDX and Phillips Sekuritas Indonesia," he added.

He noted that while this partnership between MUI and the IDX is new to the region, similar collaborations have been implemented at the national level, facilitated by the local government.

"We will ensure that in the future, not only the MUI but also Christian organizations will be encouraged to engage in the capital market in response to modern developments," he said.

Jayapura MUI Chairman expressed his appreciation for the Jayapura Communication and Informatics Agency's efforts to connect halal investment opportunities with Muslim organizations in the area through the sharia capital market program.

"This initiative represents an extraordinary leap, ensuring that investments adhere to the ethics and norms of Islamic teachings, which will undoubtedly attract many Muslims to invest in the capital market," he remarked.
