Industry Ministry Hold Motor Vehicle Repair Shop Workshop

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in the motor vehicle repair shop industry are currently growing and developing in line with the increasing demand for two-wheeled motorcycles, the public's favorite mode of personal transportation.
To encourage increased technical capabilities and human resource management in the industry, the Industry Ministry held a workshop on motor vehicle repair shops in Merauke Regency, South Papua Province.
Industry Ministry Small, Medium, and Miscellaneous Industries (IKMA) Director-General Reni Yanita explained that the workshop was attended by 20 two-wheeled repair shop SMEs and 20 speedboat machinery repair shop SMEs.
"Two-wheelers repair shop SMEs play an important role in providing motorcycle maintenance and repair services, especially in areas that have not been reached by official manufacturer repair shops," she stated on Aug. 6, 2024.
The IKMA Directorate-General also collaborates with the South Papua Province Cooperatives, SMEs, Trade, and Industry Office as well as the Merauke Regency Industry, Trade, Cooperatives, and SMEs Office for the endeavor.
Domestic motorcycle sales surged by 19.44 percent year-on-year (yoy) to 6.23 million units in 2023 based on Indonesian Motorcycle Industry Association (AISI) data. AISI also targets motorcycle sales to reach the 6.2-6.5 million units range for 2024, reflecting optimism for sustained growth of the motorcycle market from continued high demand in the country.
Reni said the growth in demand for motorcycles must be accompanied by the growth of quality -trepair shop SMEs, because motorbikes require regular maintenance to maintain their engine performance.
"We encourage repair shop SMEs to be able to provide quality services," she said. "The role of SMEs in this industry is not only to support the smooth operation of motorbikes, but also contributes towards equal access to automotive services across all regions," the official concluded.
