Hope for Fertilizer Industry to Improve Employment in Fakfak

The Fakfak Fertilizer Industrial Park national strategic project in Fakfak Regency, West Papua Province is expected to increase employment rates in the area known as the 'nutmeg city'.

Fakfak Regency Manpower and Transmigration Office Head Abu Talib Pauspaus said that the project, which has a total investment value of Rp30 trillion, will involve up to 10,000 workers during its peak construction period.

"Four hundred workers is projected to be involved once this industrial area is fully operational. The labor force participation rate in Fakfak Regency in 2022 was 63.29 percent based on Statistics Indonesia (BPS) data, a decrease from the previous year's level of 71.53 percent," Abu Talib said.

Meanwhile, the regency's open unemployment rate in 2022 was recorded at 6.75 percent, down from 7.9 percent in the previous year.

Currently, the construction of the fertilizer industrial park, which will cover an area of ​​500 hectares, continues to be accelerated. Dozens of workers and several heavy equipment have started construction work after the inaugural laying of the project's first stone.

It is hoped that the project could provide a significant contribution to increasing employment and improving the economy of Fakfak Regency.
