The Highland Papua Provincial Government is trying to improve the condition of the Jayapura-Wamena road in 2025. Acting Highland Papua Governor Velix V. Wanggai stated in Wamena District, Jayawijaya Regency, Highland Papua on Feb. 13, 2025, that land transportation is the main focus of all development sectors in the province.

"We are also trying to have support for improving road sections from the Public Works Ministry through the [Highland Papua] Road Office for this year," he added.

Wanggai explained that the main factor influencing the price of goods in Papua's mountains is transportation.

"So far, the staple goods entering the Papua Mountains have mostly used air transportation, so another strategy to lower prices is to optimize land routes," he said.

Wanggai said that communication continues to be built, especially with various ministries, to put the high prices of goods in Highland Papua under control.

"We hope that the Jayapura-Wamena road section will continue to be built so that staple goods could enter the region not only by air, but also by land," he said.

Wanggai added that other sectors such as tourism can continue to grow and attract many tourists to visit Highland Mountain when land and air transportation costs are improved.

"In addition to the transportation system that continues to be improved, tourism management in Highland Papua must also be improved so that foreign and domestic tourists are interested in coming here," he said.
